SIUC Communications Building
Carbondale, Illinois

Built in the 1970s, the communications building at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale houses performance spaces, studios, classrooms, and faculty offices for multiple departments. An overdue renovation will bring the building up to current standards, providing students with facilities that match the strength of the school’s academic programs. Ratio Architects is re-organizing the building, improving access and flow between curricular areas to enhance cross-disciplinary collaboration. Nextstage Design is helping maximize the utility and creative uses of the performance and performance support spaces within the limits of a tight budget. Work is pending approval of capital funds.
