Penn State’s new recital hall serves as a “front door” to the School of Music. According to dean Sue Haug “every angle, every decision, every material, every shape in the new space was designed for acoustic excellence.” The hall is large enough to facilitate a 50-piece orchestra and over 400 patrons, yet intimate enough to support master classes and vocal recitals. The innovative vineyard-style layout places every patron no more than 36 feet from the concert platform, and the acoustics are highly customizable to suit any performance. This concert hall makes ample use of natural light, and the LED lighting systems can be tailored to support performances at any time of day. Nextstage also helped to renovate and convert the old recital hall into an orchestra rehearsal room to best support Penn’s vivacious music community.
