Hunter Smith Band Rehearsal Building
Charlottesville, Virginia

UVA had no purpose-built facility for its large marching band. The program, whichrehearsed outdoors even in inclement weather, lacked proper instrument and uniform storage or indoor space for rehearsals. Additionally, it was labor intensive and unsafe to load and unload equipment for transport to away games. Nextstage Design principal Tony Forman, while at Theatre Projects Consultants, provided guidance to the design team on planning a more efficient and secure storage and loading system, adjustable acoustics, and lighting control. The extensive band program now has a state-of-the-art facility with two large rehearsal rooms, grade level loading and storage, a music library and archive, and staff offices.
